What's under your kitchen floor?

Wood. Lovely, soft, warm, character-ridden wood.

8:30 am Monday morning
Getting the tile off the floor was, thankfully, much easier than we feared because it had been improperly laid in the first place.  So, Chris took out the tile and we hand scraped the wood free of glue and grout.  Then we MOVED the kitchen cabinets (the ones with the sink and dishwasher) to make room for a bigger refrigerator. I didn't know these sorts of things were done.  (Aren't cabinets "built in"...apparently not).  But, Chris was undaunted and move those cabinets we did.

The problem was sanding.  It could have been a very simple job with a big drum sander rented from Home Depot.  After pushing this thing sort of like a vacuum, those floors would be sanded down in under 30 minutes with little hassle or mess.  However, this we did NOT do.  Chris could not bring himself to pay the $40 rental fee when he had already rented the drum sander just a week earlier.  To punish himself for lack of advance planning, he used a borrowed this (glorified palm sander).  So Chris had to squat over this tiny sander for over 3 hours in a very hot, very dusty kitchen.  Esther and I hid upstairs away from the dust. The man couldn't walk properly for the next 2 days.  Dust everywhere. We've both agreed not to repeat this incident again. Ever.

5pm Monday evening...sanded and ready to seal
Looks like a kitchen remodel is coming our way!

Happy 50th Birthday Grandma...these pictures are for you!

baby loves sleeping sideways

one of her favorite outfits...she eats the filly skirt

Some girls get stuck in their Bumbos.  Esther is one of those girls.

A couple of weeks ago Esther started eating new foods...like rice cereal, bananas and applesauce.  She is loving it!  She likes the food fine, although milk is still the favorite. But this little lady LOVES the spoons.  She holds them, eats them, throws them around.  It's all very exciting.
Reach for it...

my personal favorite

The sweetest thing to find coming home from choir...Baby and dad snoozing away.
